On April 18-19, 2007, I went on a little trip with my brother to San Luis Obispo to do some hiking and exploring. On the 18th, we hiked to the top of Bishop's Peak, a popular hike I did a few times when I went to Cal Poly. On the 19th, we went out to California Valley in the Carrizo Plain east of San Luis Obispo. It is a remote, middle-of-nowhere valley formed not because of rivers but because of the San Andreas Fault, which runs laterally along the valley.

I spent August 12 through 19 in Louisiana as part of a group of 14 from my church doing Hurricane Katrina relief work for the charity Operation Blessing in and around New Orleans. We spent Monday through Friday gutting houses that had been flooded. The work was hard, and conditions were bad (90° weather and 80% humidity), but everyone had a rewarding experience. There is still a lot of work to be done in the area, and many team members plan on returning again in the future.

On July 27, I flew to New Orleans with my buddy Jason to see the San Jose SaberCats play at the ArenaBowl on Sunday the 29th. While we were out there, we went on an airboat tour and drove on the 24-mile Lake Pontchartrain Causeway (the longest bridge in the world). We also did lots of aimless driving and exploring; checking out the Louisiana countryside. Oh yeah, we saw the ArenaBowl, too.

I got to spend the weekend of September 14-17 in Georgia with my brother Chris. Matt was away for OSUT (One-Station Unit Training) with the Army, and that weekend was his Family Day. He had just finished the basic phase of OSUT and got to leave the post for a weekend to visit with his family and relax before starting the Advanced Infantry Training (AIT) phase. It was an awesome weekend. I hadn't seen him since June and he hadn't left or seen anything outside of Ft. Benning since then either.

On January 12, 2008, I was a groomsman in my friend Chris' wedding. He married Masha, whom he met in Kazakhstan while serving there as a missionary. Chris was my first roommate in college, and we lived together all though our college careers along with our friend Rich, who was the best man. I spent the nights of the 9th through 12th down in So Cal hanging out and catching up.

My church sent a team of youth and adults down to Ensenada, Mexico for a week to provide a Vacation Bible School for a local church. We worked with the church, Rayo de Luz the previous 3 years, and it was exciting to see familiar faces again. We went down as a part of Azusa Pacific University's Mexico Outreach program, where hundreds of people from all over the US and Canada spend a week camping in Ensenada and doing missions work there.

In addition to the VBS, we also visited the port area of the city to see the tourist shops there. We went with Pastor Victor and his family, along with his friend (and ours also) Saúl and his family.

These pictures are some of my favorites from the over 800 taken by the people that went on the trip. They are in in rough chronological order.

I spent October 16-22 of 2007 in Georgia to watch Matt graduate from his Army basic training (OSUT) at Ft. Benning Georgia. He turned blue (received his blue infantry cord on the 18th and graduated from training on the 19th. We spent the following weekend with him in Georgia. We went to the Infantry Museum on post at Ft. Benning, went to see where Jimmy Carter grew up in Plains, GA, and did some random driving around before dropping him off for Airborne School at 1800 on the 21st. Unfortunately, he was sick and was unable to start Airborne school.

Stayed overnight in a hostel in Interlaken, Switzerland. We took a 2-hour train ride to the viewing area for Jungfraujoch in the Swiss Alps. Jungfraujoch is 13,642 ft (4158 m) tall, and the viewing area is at 11,333 ft (3454 m). The train ride itself passed through a few alpine villages, and ended with a 10km tunnel to the tourist complex, which is carved into the side of the mountain.

Also includes pictures taken in Rich's neighborhood in Fischbach near Kaiserslautern, and some pictures from our quick stop in Thun.

I spent June 10 through 13 of 2008 on a road trip to pick up my brother from college in Cheney, WA. The total trip was just over 2,000 miles long, and we took our time to stop along the way. On the way up, I stopped at the Clarno unit of the John Day Fossil Beds, and we took US Highway 295 through Oregon's far eastern high desert to do some geocaching. Once back in California, we visited Castle Crags State Park and Lassen National Park. Not bad for four days on the road.

There is also a Google map of the route I took available: http://tinyurl.com/4o3mzd

On December 23, 2008, my brothers and I went to check out the Bay Area's only remaining ghost town. It is located west of Fremont in the marshland adjacent to the bay. Officially closed to visitors, the only way into town is a gravel road connecting to train tracks which must be followed into town. The tracks served as the town's main street until the last resident left in the 70s.

I spent June 20-28 in Ensenada, Mexico for my third consecutive mission trip there. As in years past, we put on a VBS program for the kids in the neighborhood of the church Rayo de Luz. We had about 50 kids attend the program, down from last year, but still a good turnout.

A new project this year was some roof repair on the church. The roof of the upstairs rooms got damaged during the winter storms, and had deteriorated in certain sections. We worked with the pastor and his nephew on repairing a section of the roof, and hope to replace the rest of the roof at a later time.

This is a collection of pictures from some things I did in the first part of 2008 that didn't really warrant an album of their own. I went on the Big Basin waterfall loop hike a couple of times and took some pictures of the waterfalls along the trail. In April, I worked with Jerry on painting "scfbc.org" on the roof of our church so next time satellite imagery is updated, people will know what they're looking at and where to go. On April 14, I went to Half Moon Bay with my brother and found a cool beach.

On December 29, 2006, I went on a short day trip to Yosemite with my brothers and dad. It was still early in winter, so there was only a dusting of snow at the park, but we still got some neat views. It was also pretty cold.

On January 3, 2007, my brothers and I spent the afternoon driving around the Marin Headlands north of San Francisco. Amazing views of the Golden Gate and Pacific are there, as are WWI-era military bunkers which are perfect for exploring. Unfortunately, that day was pretty foggy, so we plan to go back on a sunny day for some better views.
